The Nordic Council of Ministers has contributed with Nordic statistics for more than 50 years through e.g. the Nordic Statistical Yearbook, and Nordregio – our research institution for regional development and planning – has published regional statistics since its establishment in 1997. Politically, Nordic countries do not form a separate entity, but they co-operate in the Nordic Council and the Nordic Council of Ministers. The council was established after World War II and its first concrete result was the introduction of a Nordic Passport Union in 1952. The Nordic Council of Ministers has explicitly stated that it wants the Nordic countries to be the best place in the world for young people and children (Nordic Council of Ministers, 2018a).
